Proster and Signify shed new light on capacity development and employee comfort
INTRODUCTION
Proster is excellent proof that creativity, expert staff and a courageous business decisions can turn a family business into a thriving enterprise. In existence since 1985, the company specialises in the fields of automation, mechanics, electrical engineering and industrial robotics.
Automation of technological processes, as well as consulting and providing state-of-the-art solutions to improve the work of production plants, is the daily business of the company from Brzesko in the Małopolska region. The company carries out complex projects and has a track record of successful implementations in Poland, South America, Africa and Asia.
Proster’s offer includes both integrated implementations of ready-made solutions in the customers’ plants and consulting for the engineering staff of partners. Due to its rapid growth, the Malopolska-based company has invested in a new office building and a production and storage facility, as well as upgrading the already-existing office spaces. Support for these investments was provided by Signify, a company that Proster has worked with for nearly a decade. As of 2021, the Malopolska-based company has Certified System Integrator status at the silver level.
THE CHALLENGE
Proster is actively promoting innovative technological solutions. Therefore, the new office building, in addition to providing excellent conditions for employees, also had to play the role of a kind of showroom with representative functions.
Any functional architecture solution therefore had to blend harmoniously with the modern interior design and emphasise the best of its qualities. The investor also aimed to ensure that the solutions used contribute to the optimisation of electricity consumption expenses, and this is true for both the office building and the production and storage facility.
As if these challenges weren’t enough, the investment coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, which necessitated special precautions throughout the work.
THE SOLUTION
There were no compromises when it came to selecting lighting solutions for the production and warehouse hall. Signify offered CoreLine Trunking fixtures with a length of nearly 3.5 metres and excellent efficiency and cost/effectiveness ratio. The sizable size made it possible to minimise the number of fixtures while ensuring a high light distribution rate.
Another significant advantage of this product is the great freedom of configuration of such parameters as power or light distribution angle. All fixtures are managed by the DALI system, individually controlling the various areas of the hall. Complete maintenance-free operation is guaranteed by sensors that constantly monitor the level of daylight that enters the facility through roof skylights. When its level is sufficient to ensure comfortable and compliant working conditions, the DALI system reduces the lamp lighting power. Such an action realises one of the investor’s basic demands, which is to reduce electricity expenses.
Wanting to maintain production capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic and at the same time ensure the safety of its employees, Proster has relied on the installation of UV-C fixtures in the crew locker rooms. This is the place of greatest potential risk of infection with various viruses. The innovative design provides the aforementioned fixtures with the added value of continuous air disinfection. The radiation does not escape outside the device, so the people in the room are completely safe.
The CoreLine Panel and PlainView luminaires used in office spaces, in addition to quality, meet the interior design team’s requirements for appearance and installation. In open space, each desk can be illuminated independently of the others, and the individual preferences of employees or the absence of any of them in no way affect the lighting comfort of others.
Everything is managed by a state-of-the-art control system, coupled with daylight sensors and optimising power consumption. The Trulifi system, which uses light waves impenetrable through the walls to transfer data, operates in strategic areas of the building. Access to the transmitted information is impossible from outside the room where sensitive data is processed.
Additional advantages of the system are the speed and stability of transmission, as well as the 128-bit encryption. On the other hand, lamps with the Interact function were used in the renovated office building. Their wireless communication and control have minimised the scope of necessary work to just replacing the luminaires. Even the switches communicate with the luminaires remotely, and their batteries have a lifespan of up to ten years.
Thanks to Signify's expert advice and its personalised approach to our needs, we have optimised the operating costs of our production facility. In addition, integrating the new solutions with our existing building management system gives us convenience and flexibility for future deployments. But most importantly, our employees have received a clear signal that the company's growth goes hand in hand with concern for their comfort and safety at work.
